Re:  Election Office Case No. CONV-7-IBT

Gentlemen:

The Hoffa 96 campaign, which supports the candidacy of James P. Hoffa for general president, filed a protest pursuant to Article XIV, Section 2(b) of the Rules for the 1995-1996 IBT International Union Delegate and Officer Election (Rules) against the IBT, as well as the Carey campaign, the slate of candidates led by Ron Carey, candidate for general president.

The Hoffa 96 campaign alleged that on July 15, 1996, the sergeants-at-arms appointed by the IBT and the whips appointed by Mr. Carey were allowed on the Convention floor and were practicing strategies to bar access by delegates supporting Mr. Hoffa to the microphones on the Convention floor.

After filing his protest, the protester notified the Election Officer that he wished to withdraw his protest.  Finding that the withdrawal effectuates the purpose of the Rules, the Election Officer permits the protest to be WITHDRAWN.
