Re: Election Office Case No. P-867-LU662-NCE
Gentlemen:
Richard Weronke, a member of Local Union 662, filed a protest pursuant to
Article XIV, Section 2(b) of the Rules for the 1995-1996 IBT International Union Delegate and Officer Election (“Rules”) against Local Union 662 President Reggie Konop. The protester, who is running for secretary-treasurer of his local union, alleges that the local union denied him access to a local union meeting to campaign.
Regional Coordinator Judith E. Kuhn investigated the protest.
A protest asserting a right to campaign in a local union officer election does not involve a cause of action under the Rules, which apply to the elections for International delegate and officer. See Zero, P-078-LU337-EOH (August 4, 1978). Accordingly, this protest does not arise under the Rules.
Therefore, the protest is DENIED.
